	<title>Carbohydrate</title>
	<description>
Do you have a carbohydrate addiction? At least 75% of people who are overweight do. It's when you have recurring cravings for foods that have a high carbohydrate content. These foods include white breads, bagels, pasta, potatoes, rice and sweets. Even foods that are made with sugar substitutes can trigger a craving for you. If so, read on to learn how to recover.

Carbohydrate Addiction
Carbohydrate addictions are cause by too much insulin being released when food with a lot of carbs are eaten. Too much insulin being produced tells your body that you're hungry, and thus, you eat more. Eventually, this causes your body to store food energy as fat. Over time, you can become insulin resistant because of this, which causes the cells in your muscles, organs and nervous system to stop accepting insulin. This causes low blood sugar, which can make you tired, irritable, shaky and confused. It can also give you headaches and cravings. Eventually, your fat cells will stop accepting insulin as well, so glucose is traveling around in your bloodstream, which can lead to diabetes.

The good news is that you can beat your carbohydrate addiction before it's too late. With a little help and guidance from your doctor or a nutritionist, you can beat the addiction without giving up carbs entirely. Instead of eating high carbohydrate foods all day long, you'll eat them at certain times of the day. Any if you combine high carbohydrate foods with foods that are high in protein and fiber, you won't want to eat as much or as often. Eventually, your blood sugar levels will stabilize and you will be your addiction naturally.

One thing to try--replace bad carbs with good carbs. This sounds more complicated than it actually is. First of all, limit your intake of desserts and other sweets (especially if you eat them every day). Instead, eat fruit. And instead of snacking on crackers, eat cut up fresh vegetables. Then try replacing white break with wheat bread or whole-grain bread. Replace regular pasta with whole wheat pasta. Instead of using white rice, use brown or long grain rice. Limit starchy vegetables like potatoes, as well as servings of rice or pasta, to one a day.
