Low Carbs Food

To avoid yet another failed New Year's resolution, you've decided to go on a low carb diet. But learning which food is low carbs food can be a challenge.

The Basics
Bascially, if you're on a low carb diet you can have low carbs food like meat, eggs and cheese. These are all high-protein, low carbs food. But eventually, you're going to get really tired of these foods. For awhile, you'll be set. Bacon and eggs or sausage and eggs for breakfast, steak and a lettuce salad for dinner, chicken strips, bunless cheeseburgers, omelettes, quiches, etc. But what about days when you're basically too busy to eat? You can grab a low carb, high protein meal replacement bar or shake. Now, be aware that low carb shakes and bars aren't going to taste like the shakes you get at McDonald's or like Snickers bars. That's just not how it is. As far as low carb bars go, you can find some that are good and some that taste like cardboard. And the so-called low carb shakes are even worse. Most of the time you can buy these and drink them at room temperature, and they're very thin and watery. They usually taste better if they're at least cold. But not all hope is lost--you can make your own low carb shake using protein powder, sugar substitute and low carb milk that only has three grams of carbs per cup. Throw these things in the blender with some ice, and you do end up with something that resembles a shake from McDonald's. You can buy protein powder in different flavors, and some low carb diets actually let you have blueberries and strawberries, so if you buy vanilla protein powder, you can make a blueberry shake or a strawberry shake. Or a little of both! Yum! This type of low carbs food is filling enough to make a meal out of it.

Eventually, all of this will get very old. That's why you need to build up a collection of low carb recipes. The Internet, the book that accompanies your low carb diet and low carb cookbooks are all good sources of ideas. In addition, many food manufacturers have jumped on the low carbs food bandwagon, making low carb breads, ice cream, even low carb chocolate! This certainly makes a low carb diet easier. Just remember to read the labels and count your carbs accordingly.
